Closer Changes
Both Joe Borowski and Peter Moylan hit the DL with injuries. Here's some quick points on both cases before I head for the bar and tonight's Astros/Phillies game:
- In Borowski's case, it was a strained triceps that pushed him out - that, and a Manny Ramirez HR last night. The conventional wisdom is that Rafael Betancourt gets the closing gig, and will keep it when Borowski comes back if he succeeds in the role. Betancourt is even owned in my shallow but fiercely competitive 8 team mixed league, so good luck finding him anywhere. Rafael Perez, Jorge Julio, and Masa Kobayashi are all secondary choices if you're speculating on saves. I took a flier on Julio in my AL Only league, for what it's worth.
- Moylan got one whole save before going to the DL with a right elbow strain. Although Rafael Soriano's return is probably rushed because of this, Manny Acosta will be the guy for saves for now. Most projections I've seen on Acosta aren't pretty, and his 7.20 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP aren't giving me tons of confidence. I own him in both my 12 team mixed and NL only league, willing to take a big hit in ERA and WHIP for the sake of a few saves. If you're feeling shaky in the rate stats, avoid Acosta like the plague.
